I’ve worked with many hypermobile clients through a wide range of hypermobility from knees that needing strengthening for sport to clients with a range of concerns requiring a plan to improve proprioception, support and strength.
Whether you’ve had recurring injuries due to your hypermobility or been signposted by a GP or Physiotherapist to work with a personal trainer to strengthen your muscles around the joints, I can help.
With proper diagnosis from a doctor and/or physiotherapist I can work with clients in several ways:
Improving proprioception (the brain’s awareness of joint position): This is key with hypermobility as you have reduced feedback to the brain due to stretched ligaments and faulty nerve signalling in joints which can cause poor balance and frequent injuries. Work including slow controlled movements and balancing along with bands and resistance techniques will improve your proprioception.
Muscle activation and awareness: Hypermobility is mainly managed through muscle activation and awareness because instability is caused by lax ligaments meaning joints are too flexible and therefore you rely heavily on your muscles to maintain that stability to prevent injuries. Teaching the brain how to activate the right muscles at the right time is essential so the joints to slip into fully hyperextended positions.
Strengthening muscles around the joints creating stability: We’ll work on deep stabilization muscles to act as the foundation for loose joints and muscles surrounding the joints to support stabilize them to reduce the risk of strains and sprains.

Depending on the level of hypermobility, past history, medical advice and a thorough assessment I can help develop a plan that will enhance all the areas above so you become stronger, more aware and able to move with a good range of motion comfortably and safely ……..
It is essential that we start by building the foundations, making you more stable, more aware of how you should be holding yourself properly. From here we can strengthen what is necessary to keep your hypermobility in check and increasing the brains awareness of what muscles should be used and when. Then we can build good functional strength and look at any specific strength and conditioning you may want as an individual or an athlete…. The opportunities are endless.
